Alpenarena

The Alpenarena in the heart of Bad Hofgastein is an architectural highlight: open and at the same time protected from the weather, it blends harmoniously into the natural terrain. Technical facilities as well as the ice skate and curling stock rentals are discreetly housed under the grandstands. The stage has been carefully revitalized and repositioned to give the audience a perfect view of the action from every seat.

A particular challenge was to construct the arena's roof without supporting columns in order to keep the space as open and free of obstructions as possible. The result is a special construction that withstands snow and wind loads all year round thanks to high-strength anchoring. The membrane that is stretched under the supporting structure helps ensure that the arena can also be used in adverse weather conditions.

In the summer season, festivals, concerts and events of all kinds take place here. In winter, the arena is converted into an ice skating stadium with an attached curling rink. The cooling mats required for this are hidden in floor shafts in summer so that they do not impair the space for other activities. The energy that is produced during cooling is conducted to the thermal bath via an energy line and fed into the energy cycle there by means of a heat pump.

Thanks to its wide range of uses and applications, the arena can be used all year round.
